Seven calculators for the money questions people actually ask
Educational tools built on standard formulas. Every figure below is illustrative, computed from the inputs you enter — not a projection, recommendation or guarantee.
SIP Calculator
The future value of a monthly SIP over your chosen horizon, assuming a constant expected rate of return. Instalments are treated as invested at the start of each month.
Your inputs
- Total invested
- —
- Wealth gained
- —
- Absolute return
- —
- Instalments paid
- —
Mandatory disclaimerThis calculator uses an assumed constant return rate for illustration. Actual mutual fund returns vary with market conditions and are not guaranteed. Past performance is not indicative of future results.
Mutual Fund Returns Calculator
What a mutual fund investment could grow to — a one-time amount, a monthly SIP, or both running together. Add an annual step-up if you plan to raise your SIP as your income grows, and see what the final value is worth in today's money.
What you invest
Assumptions
- Total invested
- —
- Wealth gained
- —
- Absolute return
- —
- From the one-time investment
- —
- From the SIP instalments
- —
- Annualised return (XIRR)
- —
- Value in today's money
- —
Both legs grow at the same effective annual rate you enter: the one-time amount compounds annually, and SIP instalments compound monthly at the equivalent monthly rate, (1 + r)^(1/12) − 1. The annualised return is a true XIRR across every cash flow, so it matches your assumed rate and accounts for the fact that later instalments have less time to grow.
Mandatory disclaimerThis calculator uses an assumed constant return rate for illustration. Actual mutual fund returns vary with market conditions, scheme selection and asset allocation, and are not guaranteed. Expense ratio, exit load and capital gains tax are not modelled here and will reduce what you actually receive. Past performance is not indicative of future results.
XIRR Calculator
Annualised return on investments with irregular cash flows — multiple SIPs, lump sums or withdrawals on different dates. Enter investments as negative amounts and redemptions or current value as positive.
Cash flows
| Date | Amount (₹) |
|---|
Negative = money in (SIP, lump sum). Positive = money out (redemption) or today's portfolio value. The last row is normally your current value.
- Total invested
- —
- Total withdrawn / current value
- —
- Absolute gain / loss
- —
- Holding period
- —
Mandatory disclaimerXIRR calculates the annualised return of investments made at different dates. This is the standard metric used to evaluate returns on SIPs and irregular investments. Results are for illustration and depend entirely on values you input.
Retirement Calculator
The corpus needed to sustain your lifestyle after retirement, and the monthly SIP required to build it. Expenses are inflated to your retirement date, then funded using an inflation-adjusted real return through retirement.
About you
Assumptions
- Years until retirement
- —
- Monthly expenses at retirement
- —
- Corpus needed at retirement
- —
- Real return during retirement
- —
- Years funded in retirement
- —
Mandatory disclaimerThis calculator uses assumed return and inflation rates for illustration. Actual returns depend on market conditions and asset allocation. Retirement planning should account for healthcare, dependents and individual circumstances not modelled here. Consult a SEBI Registered Investment Adviser for personalised planning.
Emergency Fund Calculator
How large your emergency fund should be, based on monthly expenses, dependents, how stable your income is, and whether insurance already covers your biggest risks.
Your situation
Park this amount somewhere you can reach within a day or two — a liquid mutual fund or a savings account — rather than in anything with a lock-in or market risk.
Mandatory disclaimerEmergency fund recommendations vary by personal circumstances. This calculator provides general guidance. It is not personalised financial advice. Consider your individual liquidity needs, existing insurance coverage and family obligations.
SWP Calculator
How long a corpus lasts if you withdraw a fixed amount each period, with the remaining balance still earning a return. Returns are applied first, then the withdrawal is taken.
Your inputs
- Total withdrawn over the period
- —
- Returns earned
- —
- Balance at the end
- —
- Withdrawal rate (annualised)
- —
Mandatory disclaimerSWPs assume constant return rates, which do not reflect real market volatility. Sequence of returns risk — poor returns in the early years — can significantly reduce how long a corpus lasts. This is illustrative and not investment advice.
Mutual Fund Overlap Calculator
How much two funds hold in common. Enter each fund's holdings with their portfolio weights; shared weight for a stock is the smaller of the two weights, and the total is the overlap.
Fund A holdings
| Stock | Wt % |
|---|
Fund B holdings
| Stock | Wt % |
|---|
Matched holdings
| Stock | Fund A | Fund B | Shared |
|---|
Mandatory disclaimerOverlap % is based on the portfolio weights you input. Actual mutual fund portfolios change over time and this calculator only reflects the snapshot you provided. This is an educational tool. It does not constitute a recommendation to invest in, redeem or switch any mutual fund scheme.
The method
How the mutual fund overlap calculator works
For every stock held by both funds, the calculator takes the smaller of the two portfolio weights. Adding those up gives the share of the portfolio the two funds have in common.
Stock names are matched loosely, so "Reliance Industries Ltd" and "Reliance Industries" count as the same holding. Use the latest monthly portfolio disclosure from each fund house for accurate weights.
Worked example (the calculator's sample funds)
- HDFC Bank: 9.5% vs 7.0%
- 7.0%
- Reliance Industries: 8.2% vs 5.5%
- 5.5%
- ICICI Bank: 6.0% vs 4.0%
- 4.0%
- Overlap across these holdings
- 16.5%
Under 30% is low overlap: the two funds are meaningfully different.
The essentials
What is mutual fund overlap, and how do you check it?
Why portfolio overlap matters
Many investors hold several funds expecting diversification, but funds in neighbouring categories often own the same large companies. High fund overlap means a second fund adds little: you are largely buying the same stocks twice and paying two expense ratios for it.
How to check mutual fund overlap
Take each fund's latest portfolio from its factsheet or monthly disclosure, enter the stocks and their weights for both funds, and read the overlap percentage. As a guide, under 30% is low, 30–50% is moderate, 50–70% is high, and over 70% suggests the two funds are close to duplicates.
What to do with the result
Overlap is one input, not a verdict. A high figure is a reason to ask what the second fund adds, such as a different category, style or market-cap mix. The mutual fund calculator projects what your SIP and lumpsum could grow to, and the XIRR calculator measures what they have actually returned.
